Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important political figure commented the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
