Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first title since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since that period of that year.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet defended 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
